YouTube Begins Pay-Per-Video Billing

Starting June 1, , the popular video sharing website YouTube will begin charging a $0.99 per video charge. Customers will be able to purchase rights to view a video and watch that video as long as their YouTube account is active. This new change will require all users to sign in before viewing videos.

This will be a change for YouTube users, who previously did not need to sign in before watching videos, nor did they need to pay to view most videos. However, now all videos will carry a $0.99 charge, no matter the length of the video. Because of the new charge, videos will no longer have advertisements before, during, or after the videos.

YouTube is excited about the change. Robert J. Swanson, Vice President of Sales, noted that, "Users won't have to watch ads anymore. They will be able to watch their favorite videos without interruptions, and YouTubers will be able to make more money per video. Anyone can still become a YouTuber and start making money right away instead of waiting for a certain number of subscribers or views!"

Some younger YouTube users are angry about the change. Ten-year-old Amanda Love was very upset about the new charges. She stated, "I'm not old enough to have an account anymore, and I don't have a credit card to pay for my favorite videos! My parents are never going to pay for videos for me. I hate my life."

Whether customers are excited about this change or not, one thing is for sure. YouTube as we know it will be changed forever.
